Remedies for carpet stains

Remedies for carpet stains

Staining and spillages on brand new carpets can be very irritating and costly, if not dealt with in the correct way. In areas such as the dining room or lounge in particular, there is often little you can do to avoid marks occurring on your carpet.

By following these simple stain remedies you can rest assured that your new carpet will be kept looking as good as new for as long as possible. Take these simple steps to ensure the best solution to the following spillages:

Coffee

Blot all moisture from the area and cover with a mixture of water, vinegar and a gentle carpet cleaner. Leave to settle and then blot with a dry sponge until dry.

Ink

Combine cornstarch and milk until they form a paste. Apply the paste  to the stain and leave to dry for three hours. Once the mixture has set, brush it away from the carpet fibres and vacuum.

Blood

Apply cold water with a spray bottle and gently blot with a paper towel. Spray the area with a basic carpet cleaning product and follow the instructions on the bottle.

Chewing Gum

Rub a bag of ice over the affected carpet fibres to solidify the gum. Once solid, gently scrape the gum away from the carpet fibres with a butter knife.

Red Wine

In order to dilute the dark colour, pour white wine over the spillage and dab very gently with a sponge. Pour salt over the spillage and allow it to soak up the moisture. Once the salt has dried out, vacuum the area.

Vomit

Cover the stained area with baking soda and blot gently with a paper towel. Once the carpet has dried, vacuum the affected area.

Tomato ketchup

Dab the area gently with a dry sponge and cover the stain with salt to soak up the remaining moisture. Once the salt has dried, vacuum the carpet.
