Should I have carpet in the bathroom?

Bathrooms are considered to be high-moisture environments because of their bathing facilities. Once moisture gets in and under carpeting—and especially the padding—mold, and mildew can develop.
If you’re considering carpet for your bathroom, it’s important that you choose a carpet that it fit for purpose and can live up to its environment.
Choose a carpet that’s water-resistant
The insulation properties is why people opt for bathroom carpet. Most carpets however, aren’t designed to withstand the rigours of water, especially since damp promotes mold and then leads to a fairly rapid deterioration of any “soft” furnishings.
It’s important to choose a carpet that is water-resistant and has waterproof backing to help protect the floorboards and underlay from damage.
Choose an anti-slip carpet
If you have small children or older relatives, carpet in the bathroom may offer additional peace of mind where slips and trips are concerned. Carpet specially made for the bathroom can prevent slipping on what can quickly become a slippery floor underfoot – provided, of course it has a non-slip backing.
Choosing an anti-slip carpet will help prevent slipping, and in the event that it does happen, the risk of fractures and other injuries is considerably reduced.
Clean your carpets
Unlike bathmats that can be easily removed and washed or replaced, carpet it a permanent fixture. Over time, mold and mildew and other forms of potentially harmful bacteria can build up as a result of prolonged moisture.
It’s important that you regularly clean your carpets and use necessary carpet treatments to keep bacteria at bay.
